Police up patrols in Fairfield Beach after multiple break-ins
Fairfield police say there will be an increased presence in the Fairfield Beach area following two separate incidents involving break-ins at homes of Fairfield University students.
On Oct. 24, a student reported that she believed she saw an unknown man in her bedroom. Police say the suspect immediately left home and nothing was reported missing or damaged.
Later that day, police located and identified the man who had mistakenly entered the home. Police say the man was a former student who was intoxicated. He believed that he was inside a friend's home that he was visiting for alumni weekend.
The man was issued an infraction for trespassing and released.
The second incident happened on Nov. 3. Two students informed police that earlier in the morning, they saw what they believed to be a person inside their residence. Police responded and canvassed the area. Similar to the first incident, no items were found to be missing and nothing inside the home was damaged.
Police do not believe these incidents are connected and do not believe there is any ongoing safety threat to residents or students.
They say out of abundance of caution, police will increase their presence and deploy additional investigative resources.
