An explosion in Newark prompted police and firefighters to rush to a home on Magazine Street.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said emergency crews were called to 86 Magazine Street around 12:20 p.m. According to authorities, construction workers were doing work on a water line when they accidentally struck a gas line, which triggered the explosion.

The force of the blast blew the front of the house outward, sending siding flying into the street and shattering several windows.

Two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, along with one construction worker, were taken to University Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Officials said no other injuries have been reported.

As a precaution, about 15 dogs were also evacuated from the backyard of a nearby property.

Residents in surrounding homes were temporarily asked to leave the area while crews from Public Service Enterprise Group work to repair the damaged gas line.
