A driver was injured by a fallen tree Saturday near the Southern State Parkway in Hempstead.
Police say the driver was hospitalized after it happened around 3 a.m. on Carolina Avenue.
Neighbors told News 12 that they heard a loud crash.
"I just heard rumbling and then I heard a really loud boom. I looked outside and didn't really see anything. Then I came downstairs and saw the tree had fallen,” said Ella-Marie La Force.
The fall took down power lines and left as many as 12 houses powerless, according to PSEG’s outage map.
Power has since been restored to all those residences.
The cause of the fall remains unknown.
