Police say a Ram 1500 Big Horn was driving on Route 8 south in the left lane, near the entrance to the Exit 15 ramp around 9 p.m.
A Nissan Altima was stopped in the left lane for an unknown reason and the driver, Jaiden Andreiz, was standing along the side of the vehicle, according to authorities.
The Ram then collided with the Altima.
Andreiz was taken to Griffin Hospital and then transferred to Yale New Haven for life-threatening injuries.
