The video shows the driver appearing to drive at the officers, which is when the officer shot at the driver.
Police say it started when officers saw a Porsche with suspicious plates on the Belt Parkway just after 8 p.m. on April 29.
Officials say the officers did a license plate check on the vehicle and determined the plates to be stolen.
It was then discovered that the vehicle was stolen out of Pennsylvania.
Police say when officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, it exited and then got back on the Belt Parkway going eastbound.
Police radioed ahead to adjoining precincts that the stolen vehicle was headed in their direction.
Officers tried to intercept the vehicle, when the Porsche sped onto the service road in the direction of several officers, who set up a road block to stop the vehicle.
Police say the Porsche came into close proximity to at least one of the officers, almost striking them.
Officials say an officer discharged one bullet and struck the driver of the vehicle.
They say the vehicle went one more exit to Pennsylvania Avenue, where it struck another police department vehicle.
Police say the passenger in the vehicle was apprehended, and officers tried to perform lifesaving measures on the driver.
They say the driver was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Police say the driver, who has been identified as Jumaane Wright, was on federal probation for interstate transport of stolen vehicles out of Pennsylvania.
News 12 spoke with residents who wanted to remain anonymous but say watching the body camera video helps her understand the danger police were in that night. "I'm scared for them," she said.
News 12 spoke with residents in the area like Terrence Brown who recall when the incident happened.
"Everybody has the right to fear for their life when a car is coming at them head on. But I don't know if pulling a firearm is the best first option," said Brown.
It comes as one of three police-involved shootings across the city in the past month.
