Police are searching for a suspect who stabbed a man outside of a deli at the intersection of Hicks Street and Mill Street in Red Hook just after 7 p.m. Monday.
The victim, described as a 45-year-old man, is in stable condition after being stabbed in the neck.
The suspect is a man in his 30s, with a slim build who was seen fleeing from the scene following the stabbing, according to police.
Witnesses tell News 12 that a fight broke out outside the store with the suspect attempting to steal the victim's phone.
When the victim fought back, the suspect took out a knife and chased after him before attacking him with the blade, said those on the scene who asked not be identified.
Witnesses tell News 12 the victim is a well-known and liked person in the community, and were shocked he was attacked, but say that corner is a frequent hot spot for violence in the area.
