State lawmakers in New York and New Jersey are calling on the Biden administration to act. Gov. Kathy Hochul is calling on Congress to extend counter-unmanned aircraft systems activities to select state and local law enforcement.
"Until those powers are granted to state and local officials, the Biden administration must step in by directing additional federal law enforcement to New York and the surrounding region to ensure the safety of our critical infrastructure and our people."
Suffolk and Nassau police say they have had multiple reports of drone sightings Friday night.
"I don't know the easy way to track them down…They come, they go – you can't get radar on them that quick. I'd love to find out what they are, I don't think it's a threat to us, but I don't know," said Phil Guzzardi from Massapequa.
Nassau police say there has been 55 reports of drone sightings since Friday - 79 since Nov. 1. They say the reports they have been getting are of objects similar to personally owned recreational drones and are "nothing like what is being reported in New Jersey."
Suffolk police did not provide data on the number of drone sightings.
