A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Interstate 80 in Morris County that caused several vehicles to become engulfed in flames and spread to a wooded area nearby.
New Jersey State Police officials say the crash happened just after 1 p.m. Tuesday on the westbound side of the highway in Parsippany-Troy Hills.
Police say a Dodge pickup truck was towing a Chevrolet Suburban at the time of the crash. They say that a person riding a Yamaha motorcycle crashed into the back of the Suburban, causing all three vehicles to catch fire. The motorcyclist was killed in the crash.
The fire then spread to about four or five acres of land in the area.
The crash and wildfire caused a portion of I-80 to be closed for a time Tuesday afternoon and evening, causing heavy traffic issues for the evening commute.
The name of the motorcyclist was not immediately released.
