A man is facing multiple charges for causing a gas leak while robbing a Greenwich home, police say.
On April 4, police responded to a gas leak in the area of Pemberwick Road between Comly Avenue and Grey Rock Drive just before 8 a.m. The Stamford Bomb Squad was called in to assist. Police say no one was injured.
Officers later learned that the incident was related to a residential burglary, in which Jeffrey Caviola caused extensive damage to a home.
Police say Caviola turned on the natural gas supply from the stove and removed the oven door, which allowed the gas to flow into the residence. They say a toaster was also placed into the microwave, which was then activated.
Police say those actions could have caused a significant gas explosion.
Caviola was arrested on Tuesday.
He was charged with arson, illegal manufacture of a bomb, burglary and criminal mischief.
Police say Caviola is additionally responsible for a commercial burglary that happened on the Post Road in Greenwich. During that incident, damage caused by Caviola exceeded $1,5000 and interior fixtures were destroyed.
