Stamford Board of Education announced Tuesday that it unanimously voted to appoint Dr. Adrian Talley as the next superintendent of Stamford Public Schools.
Talley will begin his new position on July 1.
Talley previously worked in the Indian Prairie School District in Illinois and for Prince George's County Public Schools in Maryland.
“Public education is a community enterprise, and a school system belongs to the community it serves. As the next Superintendent of Stamford Public Schools, I am committed to bringing people together around a shared vision to ensure the district achieves measurable, sustainable improvement, particularly in advancing equity, strengthening student outcomes, and maintaining public confidence," says Talley.
Talley's appointment was the result of a nationwide search conducted by Zeal Education Group.
The district's current Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero said in June she would not extend her contract and instead become the head of a private K-12 school in Africa.
Following her announcement, the Stamford Education Association filed a compliant with the Connecticut State Department of Education against Lucero, alleging multiple violations of the state’s Code of Professional Responsibility. In November, the department said the complaint was without merit.
Lucero has also received criticism from students and parents for attempting to remove the Stamford High School and Westhill High School principals, along with implementing flexible schedules.
