A Hempstead man accused of attacking a motorcyclist and stealing his cellphone Monday in New Cassel is facing multiple charges, according to police.
Authorities say Dester Ramirez Hernandez approached the victim at a traffic light by the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Grand Street.
Police say he knocked the man off the motorcycle, began to beat him, took his cellphone and then fled the scene on foot.
Officers located and arrested Hernandez without incident shortly after.
The 23-year-old victim was hospitalized for evaluation and treatment.
Authorities say Hernandez is charged with robbery, grand larceny and assault.
He was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Hempstead.
