Police say 24-year-old Shaliek Smith was stabbed in the chest on Halsey Street in Bushwick.
They say he was taken to Wyckoff Height Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
News 12 obtained video of what appears to be Smith being chased by a group of four men, before being kicked and punched to the ground and stabbed.
Police say it happened around 3:49 p.m. Thursday. The incident happened just blocks away from two school buildings, only a little more than an hour after school let out.
News 12 Reporter Daniella Rodriguez Thursday night report on the fatal Bushwick stabbing.
News 12 saw at least three school safety officers by the schools on Friday. Officers tell News 12 they are always there, but some residents said they noticed more officers than usual on Friday.
Lucero Puebla, who lives in the area, says she thinks more should be done to ensure safety.
“There should be more security and more police around, especially since there’s a school nearby. Incidents like this shouldn’t happen, it's really scary,” said Puebla.
Esther Graffioli, a school bus driver, says she drives along the street where it happened every day.
“It’s very bad because I pick up my kids here and then go around to another school. It’s very bad for the kids,” said Graffioli.
Police say they are searching for a group of four men, who were last seen wearing dark clothing.
