Police say two men were fatally shot Monday morning in Throgs Neck.
The incident happened near 500 Brush Ave. around 5:36 a.m.
Police say a 21-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and buttocks, and a 22-year-old man was shot in the armpit and shoulder.
EMS took the men to the hospital where they were pronounced dead, police say.
Police have identified the victims as 22-year-old Gabriel Alvarez, of Connecticut, and 21-year-old Adam Waldropt, of The Bronx.
Police say they are searching for two men wearing ski masks that left the scene together on a moped.
The incident comes after a 21-year-old man was shot in his stomach on Brush Avenue early Saturday morning.
Monday’s violence follows a press conference Mayor Eric Adams had Sunday, saying the city's seeing the lowest number of shootings and homicides in recorded history.
“These are just stats to some but they're more than stats to us. Thousands of guns off our streets means thousands of families protected from violence,” said Mayor Adams.
But the scattered shell casings along Shuley Avenue tell a different story, along with city data reporting a 50% increase in murders and shooting victims in this part of the borough.
News 12 spoke with this district's council member who says more action needs to be taken.
"Well, there's been an increase in crime in this district. Year to date, absolutely. But we don't have the officers. We're down officers for down patrol at night. And we need to make sure that we get the officers with this graduating august class,” said Kristy Marmorato, of District 13.
She says right now there's only three police cars covering the entire 45th Precinct. and that's not enough for such a large area.
