A Bayville man was charged with failure to safely store firearms Tuesday after his 11-year-old child left home with a shotgun, police say.
Nassau police say the child exited the home on 7th Street while carrying the gun at around 2:30 p.m. He then instructed a 13-year-old boy riding a bike on the street to get away from the residence.
The child’s father, Alfredo Caceres, was arrested following an investigation into the incident.
He is due in court later this month, according to authorities.
Police also say an investigation determined that the child “never pointed the shotgun at anyone and no one was placed in danger.”
