Election officials around the Hudson Valley are on high alert. They are working with police to make sure everyone stays safe while voting and working at the polls Tuesday.
Officials in Westchester County say they rarely have had issues through the years at polling locations. They're hoping it stays that way this year.
As a precaution, they have a plan in place. That includes staying in close contact with law enforcement.
"We've offered all of our polling sites, if they would like to add additional security, they can charge it back to the county. Obviously, a lot of our polling sites are schools and other facilities, they already have concerns about us being in their sites, particularly this year," says Westchester County Democratic Elections Commissioner Tajian Nelson.
Officers with Yonkers police tell News 12 they have a special detail every election day focused on polling sites.
The goal is to keep voters and workers safe. These officers are well-versed on the laws pertaining to polling places, according to Yonkers Police.
