Plainedge Superintendent Edward A. Salina Jr. said there are new "lifesaving" devices installed throughout the district’s schools to be used in case of an emergency.
The XSponse devices will be in every classroom, and in the case of an emergency, can be activated to get help to the school quickly.
They contain cameras, which will allow for eyes in the classroom during an emergency situation. The cameras will only be used during emergencies.
School employees will have badges, which can also be activated in the case of an active shooter or other emergency situation.
Ryan Petty lost his daughter, Alaina, in the Parkland, Florida shooting.
Petty, a school safety advocate, is a proponent of the XSponse technology and an adviser to the company.
“It’s gonna save lives. Every second in these tragedies counts," he says.
