Rusted metal and chipped paint are just a couple of the things an online petition describes as neglect at Tilden Playground in East Flatbush.
Some neighbors in the community are calling for repairs and renovations to the area.
Some visitors who spoke to News 12 on Saturday agreed that the playground is in need of updates.
"A new coat of paint, some more equipment for the kids, a little bit, so they can have fun with, I think that's stuff's needed," said Reece George.
The petition states the playground has broken and deteriorating equipment with sharp edges, rusted metal, chipped and peeling paint, uneven concrete, rodent infestation and limited green space. All in which they feel creates a hazardous environment.
Agron Baptiste, who was visiting the park on Saturday, shared with News 12 problems he noticed while visiting the basketball courts at the playground.
"All three of the backboards that we have, they're all bent, they're bent, and the rims also bent. We also have cracks in the floors. As you can see, a lot of times they'll be running up and down," Baptiste said.
Overall, the creator of the petition and many who cherish the playground describe Tilden Playground as vital part of their community. They hope to see it thrive for generations to come.
"I think this is a lot of unused space we have over here...So it'll be nice if even they wanted to expand the playground and just have something a little bit more community focused," shared park visitor Kern Richardson.
News 12 reached out to NYC Parks about the online petition and its' concerns. News 12 was told the area will be inspected and assessed.
