Tutor Time says its Ronkonkoma location is closing because its lease is not being renewed.
Parents say they have just 30 days to find a new day care for their children.
Anabel Casanova, of Ronkonkoma, says that staff at the Ronkonkoma location are offering to transfer them to other Tutor Times, but that they would be placed on a waitlist.
"We found out this morning! I dropped him off and they basically told us that we have 30 days to go elsewhere,” she said. "It's a tough situation and it's hard to find child care."
Tutor Time released a statement, saying, “We have thoroughly enjoyed serving the families at Tutor Time of Ronkonkoma. Unfortunately, we received notice from our landlord that our lease will not be renewed as the building has been taken over by the town for redevelopment. We are working with our families to transfer children and staff to our sister locations and look forward to continuing to provide high quality care in this community.”
"I have to find somewhere else in such a short period of time,” said Quincy Chaihong, of Ridge. "It's a good location. The staff is really good. The school has been good."
Jeff Almonaitis, of Ronkonkoma, says news of the closure has caused chaos for his family.
"My wife was crying earlier because of how emotional this is going to be,” he said. "We rave about it all the time to everyone and talk about how lucky we are to have been there."

News 12 learned the day care's property has been sold to the developer behind the Station Yards project, Tritec.
In a statement to News 12, a Tritec representative said, “We are actively working to acquire the building in Ronkonkoma, where Tutor Time is currently a tenant. We have a signed contract with the property owner and expect to close this summer.
Out of respect for the existing landlord-tenant relationship, any discussions with Tutor Time have appropriately remained between them and the current owner. That said, we see long-term value in having a daycare operator at Station Yards and would welcome the opportunity to include a quality provider—whether Tutor Time or another—in the future.”
"If the children could just finish out the school year and then have the summer and then relocate after the summer. Something like that would really be helpful,” said Almonaitis.
The developer also tells News 12 that the day care's property has been part of the area's master plan for over a decade.
