A group of tenants in a building on Prospect Park Southwest is growing increasingly frustrated as packages continue to go missing from their mailroom.
Surveillance footage from the building shows several individuals caught in the act of stealing packages, as recently as Thursday. Tenants say this issue has persisted for years, and despite recent attempts to combat the problem, thefts remain rampant.
To help prevent package thefts, the NYPD recommends that residents schedule deliveries when they will be home, track their deliveries closely, and file a police report if a package is stolen. However, some tenants have reported difficulties with the police.
“I made a report, but they said unless the package is worth $1,000, they won’t take further action,” one resident said.
The superintendent hopes management will install a locked door or gate to secure the mailroom, but until then, the best they can do is put up signs urging tenants not to buzz in strangers.
In the meantime, residents continue to search for solutions to protect their deliveries.
