Strong winds and heavy rain swept through Brooklyn overnight, knocking down trees and leaving damage behind in several neighborhoods.
One of the largest scenes was in Cypress Hills near Linden Boulevard and Fountain Avenue, where a large tree came crashing down overnight.
Neighbors in the area said part of the tree landed on a car parked nearby.
“The car was underneath this portion of the tree that fell,” Pastor Ross told News 12. “By the grace of God it only fell on the back portion of the car.”
In Gravesend, neighbors also captured video of trees down on West 1st Street and West 16th Street. Firefighters were seen moving branches out of the road to help keep the area safe.
Those were just some of the storm-related calls reported overnight.
Con Edison’s outage map also showed reports of downed service wires across parts of the borough, leaving some customers without power for a time.
When trees come down during storms like this, firefighters are usually first on scene to secure the area and make sure streets remain accessible. After that, crews from New York City Department of Parks and Recreation handle cleanup and tree removal.
Everyone should stay away from any downed wires if seen and never assume they are safe to touch.
If you see a fallen tree or large branch blocking a street or sidewalk can report it through 3-1-1.
