The Wakeman Boys & Girls Club on Saturday hosted its annual Over The Edge urban rappelling event.

WBGC CEO Sabrina Smeltz conquered the 248-foot-tall drop with fiancé Rich Bratton.

"If we can do this together, we can do anything together," said Smeltz, "It allows us to do more things throughout the year for our kids...and it's another testament to show that the work we do in the community is so important and people really rally behind us to make that happen."

All proceeds go directly to the clubs programs that promote academic success, healthy lifestyles and character and leadership.

"I wanted to do it for a good cause, I heard we already raised 90 grand so might as well go over the edge," said Dimitri Santamaria, who also rappelled down the building Saturday morning.

The goal is to raise $100,000.

It was full-circle moment for people like Stacey Narvaez who grew up going to Wakeman Boys & Girls Club on Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport and is now a sub at the center.

"I'm the third person to do it, so both my siblings did it and I'm really lucky to be able to give back to the community," said Narvaez.
