The Orange County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of retired officer Billy Treco.

Sheriff's officials announced Treco's death Saturday.

Treco served communities across Orange County during a law enforcement career that spanned more than 23 years.

Officials say he worked in Montgomery, Maybrook and Walden before serving with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Following his retirement from law enforcement, Treco continued serving the public as a member of the Maybrook Village Board.

Leaders say he was known for his professionalism, dedication to public service and genuine care for others.
