New Jersey Forest Fire Service officials said firefighters have substantial progress containing the wildfire in Wharton State Forest near the Batona Campground and Apple Pie Hill.

Officials said the fire was 60% contained as of 9:17 a.m. Saturday.

As News 12 reported, the Batona Campground was evacuated as a precaution, but no homeowners have been asked to evacuate.

Officials say no structures are threatened by the fire either.

The Batona Trail remains closed between Route 532 and Carranza Road and the Tulpehocken Trail is closed from Apple Pie Hill to Hawkins Bridge.

Several roads remain closed Saturday, including local Wharton State Forest roads. Carranza Road is also still closed from the Carranza Memorial to Speedwell Road at Friendship Field.

Officials say the forest fire service has responded to the wildfire with ground crews, an observation helicopter and a helicopter capable of dropping 300 gallons of water.
