A 36-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a 9-year-old boy in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
Jesse J. Dunbar II is facing numerous charges, including first-degree murder, in the Jan. 31 shooting that killed Yasin Morrison. Dunbar is also charged with shooting an adult male.
The shooting happened in front of Morrison's grandmother's house on Osborne Terrace.
"The killing of any person is a tragic occurrence, but it is particularly heinous when an innocent 9-year-old child loses their life to all-too-common senseless violence," said Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II.
The prosecutor's office is asking anyone with information about the case to contact its tip line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC (1-877-847-7432).
