The NYS Board of Regents has approved a new rule that will suspend a teacher’s license if they are accused of sexual abuse. The board unanimously voted in favor of it during a meeting on Tuesday. Under the existing law, districts must file charges with the state to have a tenured educator fired. The process of accomplishing this is often lengthy. State officials say the new rule will prevent teachers from returning to the classroom until their case is fully investigated. The policy will take effect starting May 21.
