Two men were injured in separate shootings overnight in Melrose and Crotona Park, the NYPD says.
They happened within one hour of each other and about two miles apart.
Police said a 43-year-old man was shot shortly after 1 a.m. at 1700 Crotona Ave., an address inside Crotona Park. However, as of Sunday evening, police could not confirm to News 12 if the shooting happened inside or outside of the park.
Sources said the victim walked into a local hospital and is not cooperating with police.
The shooting in Melrose happened shortly after 2 a.m. inside of a NYCHA complex on Park Avenue between East 156th and 158th streets. Police said a 36-year-old man was shot in the left shoulder and taken to a hospital.
People living in the area said they do not feel safe in their own community.
“It’s horrible,” said Ed, of Melrose. “That’s conducive of what’s going on all over the city. People are being hurt and shot. There are too many guns on the street. They should turn them in to the gun buyback program and stop harming and killing and shooting people.”
Police said the two victims are expected to recover. As of Sunday evening, no arrests had been made.
