Police confirmed a man in his 30s died after he was shot in the torso early Monday morning.
Officials say shots were fired at 7:30a.m. at the Gourmet Deli Corp. bodega on University Avenue in Morris Heights.
One of the bodega workers spoke exclusively with News 12, noting the man was shot once inside of the business.
Police said officers arriving at the scene found the male victim unconscious and unresponsive.
Investigators said the victim was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officials report no arrests have been made.
Friends of the victim identified him as 32-year-old Misael Garcia Tatis. He was inside the Gourmet Deli Corp on University Avenue near Brandt Place when he was shot in the torso. He was taken to Saint Barnabas hospital where he died.
Daniel Rodriguez says Garcia Tatis was his childhood friend.
"I found out this morning, I saw a lot of phone calls, they were calling and calling and calling and I don't pick up the phone when I am sleeping and so I saw that it was multiple people calling so I went downstairs fast and they told me the news," said Rodriguez.
