The NYPD is investigating a shooting in Williamsbridge that sent one man to the hospital on Friday.
Employees and customers went running as they heard the gunshots outside of a nearby salon.
“We hear, ‘Pop, pop, pop, pop,’ and everybody just lays on the floor,” said Suzette Williams, owner of Bronxwood Natural Haircare on Bronxwood Avenue. “We didn’t know what happened.”
Williams said she was shocked by Friday afternoon’s gunfire.
“I left my customer,” Williams said. “I asked him, ‘Are you on the floor?’ He said, ‘Yeah.’ He was behind [the counter] because I left him. I ran to the back.”
The NYPD said the shots rang out after 3:30 p.m. near East 226th Street and Paulding Avenue.
Police said a 34-year-old man was struck once in the neck and taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
“It’s kind of crazy,” said Tony Clark, of Williamsbridge. “Kids [were] coming home from home, you know; there’s a day care right there. It’s peak hours. School is letting out. It’s a crazy situation.”
The NYPD said the investigation is in the early stages, but police may be looking for two men.
“It’s unfortunate because we’re just here trying to make a living, and we have to deal with this in the community,” Williams said.
The NYPD is asking anyone with information to contact them.
