New York City residents are heading to the polls this morning to cast their ballots for a new mayor, along with other major city leaders.
There has already been a record-breaking number of people heading to the polls early. About five times as many New Yorkers voted early compared to the last mayoral election in 2021.
Meanwhile, in Morris Park, a lot is at stake today besides the mayor's race.
District 13's City Council seat is on the line. Republican Councilmember Kristy Marmorato is being challenged by Democrat Shirley Aldebol and Joel Rivera, an Independent. This is a district that historically tends to go either red or blue.
Bronxites will also be voting for public advocate, comptroller, and Bronx Borough president and of course all eyes are on the mayor's race. All three candidates made their rounds Monday for last minute campaigning.
While political analysts say the surge in young voters could play a pivotal role today.
Polling sites open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. Voters are reminded that if you are on line to vote before 9 p.m. you have the right to still cast your ballot and don't forget to answer the six questions on the back.
