Mayor Barbara Smyth was sworn in to office today in the Concert Hall at the Norwalk City Hall.
Smyth is the second woman to take office in 50 years.
State leaders joined to share remarks on the visions for Norwalk.
Smyth knew this role was a calling as she talked about empowering the next generation of women.
"I hope that I can inspire you today to lead with me and to help continue to make Norwalk the beautiful, dynamic and diverse community we all know and love," said Smyth. "This city belongs to all of us. When we listen to one another, when we show up for one another and move forward together, there's nothing we can't do".
Former Mayor Harry Rilling passed the gavel as his 12-year term came to an end.
Smyth says her vision will take collaboration, patience and trust.
