A Norwalk man faces charges following a nearly four-hour standoff with police Monday.

Officers were called to Dock Road just before 9 a.m.

A woman told police that her son, 20-year-old David Erik Wenger, was inside their home and threatened to harm himself. The woman was outside when she called police.

Police found Wenger outside on the porch with a saw and a knife. He was also bleeding from his hand. Police say as officers tried to speak with Wenger, he threatened to kill them if they entered the residence. No one else was in the home at the time.

Police say Wenger moved in and out of the home, was yelling and made threats against the officers.

They say during attempts to de-escalate, Wenger exited the home and threw an airsoft pistol at police.

Crisis negotiators were requested to the home. The negotiators made multiple attempts to communicate with Wenger and encouraged him to peaceful surrender.

Police say at one point during the incident, Wenger made a Molotov cocktail in the home, lit it and threw it at officers. The device landed in the driveway of a neighboring home. He also threw knives in the direction of police.

Wenger was also seen creating other improvised weapons, such as taping a knife to a pole to form a makeshift spear.

Negotiators were able to persuade Wenger to leave the home. He was taken into custody at 12:43 p.m. without incident and taken to police headquarters.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Wenger was charged with two counts of criminal attempt at assault on a police officer, two counts of reckless endangerment and threatening.

Wenger is expected to appear in court May 4.
