A grand jury has indicted a Brooklyn man accused of stabbing a stranger at the Union Square train station in December.
Officials say that on Dec. 10, 2025, 25-year-old Christopher Betancourt boarded a Manhattan-bound L train at the Canarsie Station, got off at Union Square, and within moments, attacked a man on the platform unprovoked. They say he stabbed the man in the back three times with a knife.
Officials say the victim was able to fight Betancourt off and grab the weapon, and that’s when prosecutors say Betancourt just hopped right back on the train and returned to Canarsie.
It was not until February that he was arrested.
Betancourt is now facing charges for attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
This indictment comes around a week after another high-profile subway attack, at Grand Central Station, where a man stabbed three different people with a machete before being shot by police.
