The nor’easter is making an impact on Long Island’s East End, causing flooding along Dune Road and raising concerns about ongoing beach erosion.

“Dune Road — well, I couldn’t even go down there today,” said Rich Berglin, of Hampton Bays. “I went about fifty feet and right away had to turn around. It was either that or do some damage to your car as it goes underwater.”

In addition to the street flooding, the storm also brought rough surf to the shoreline, including at Ponquogue Beach, where some residents ventured out to witness the waves firsthand.

“We figured we’d take a ride,” said Brian Jurgens of Center Moriches. “My brother’s up from Florida, so we wanted to spend a little time with him and check out the waves.”

“Every time we have one of these nor’easters, Mother Nature seems to gobble up more and more of the beach,” Berglin said. “There’s no easy answers, but it’s truly frightening.”

Officials have posted signs along Dune Road warning drivers of flooding, and residents are urged to avoid the area until water levels recede.
