Noises that sounded like gunfire sent people running at an evening soccer game at a Poughkeepsie park on Sunday.

Neighbors near Lincoln Park at Jefferson and Montgomery streets said they heard several pops around 6:30 p.m. and initially thought they were fireworks.

They said people scattered after realizing what was happening.

The shots were fired during an adult league soccer game that meets at the park every Sunday.

Police remained in the area throughout the day as details continued to emerge.

City officials and police have not yet released additional information.
