Get to that breaking news this morning. The NYPD is ramping up its presence at houses of worship across the city after a car rammed into the Chabad headquarters in our borough. Police say the incident is now being investigated as a possible hate crime. We have News Twelve's Edric Robinson in Crown Heights this morning. Good morning, Edric. Tell us what we know. Yes, there's a lot of police out here surrounding the building here just off of Eastern Parkway where this happened. This is Building 770, and if you take a look at what's left behind here after that car slammed into the doors here, you can see the doors now are completely missing, leading to the side here as this van is parked right outside this after police say this car slammed multiple times into the doors last night. The car has since been towed away, but the damage and the questions remain. Now I want you to take a look at this video that captured the scene out here. You can see a Honda with New Jersey plates ram into the doors, back up, and then slam into them again. Police say this happened just before 9 last night. Officers who were already working a security detail here immediately rushed in, ordered the driver out of the car, and. Took him into custody. Now we were here as crews towed that car away from the scene this morning. We're told the bomb squad was called in as a precaution and conducted a full sweep of the vehicle and the area. No explosives or weapons were found and no one was hurt. Still, people say it was a scary and confusing time. Take a listen. Right now I feel shocked. I feel that this can't be looked over. Something has to be done about this, as someone else posted already. There has to be, the service lane has to be closed. We can't have any cars going here. It's the head center of Jewelry, the most famous building in the world. I think a lot of persons try to make us feel bad and make us fall, and the response to anti-Semitism is not to be afraid, to shine with light, to spread light. Next one up. A spokesperson for Chabad believes this was intentional. Police say the incident is now being investigated as a possible hate crime. The mayor condemning the act. And take a look at this. The Crown Heights Shamram taken to act stating the driver was previously arrested in New Jersey after trying to enter a synagogue there. We are working to confirm more information about that. Police in New Jersey now right now police say they are still trying to figure out why this happened and what motivated the driver for now as you can see here, extra security remains outside here and we're told that extra security will be positioned across the city in Crown Heights, Edric Robinson, News 12. So glad nobody was hurt. Edric, thank you. And more breaking news this time in Sheepshead Bay. One person is dead after a fire broke out at around 2 this morning. Fire and em mass vehicles packing the icy streets over on 2709 Ocean Avenue. FDNY tells us that they managed to get those flames under control inside of the building, but unfortunately found that one victim unconscious and unresponsive. Fire marshals are currently working to determine the cause of that fire.
