And the temperature is below freezing here in Cornwall. This is new video of that area in the 11 o'clock hour. Let's get right to Blaze Gomez in Orange County with an update from that community. We're just starting to see the first snowfall here in Cornwall as this weather system moves through Orange County. Crews are out, schools are adjusting schedules, and drivers are urged to use caution. The total snowfall is expected to vary across the region, but even a coating can make untreated roads slippery. Crews are pre-treating here in Cornwall. Monitoring conditions as temperatures hover near freezing. Several districts have announced delays or closures, and we're tracking any changes throughout the day. I'll keep checking with officials throughout the day on the road conditions. now in Austin where it is just above freezing there, meaning sleet and rain are coming down. Lisa LaRocca is with Thunderbolt 12. And I was just checking the gauge on Thunderbolt. It's about 3435 degrees, so just like Addison said, you know, you have those mid-30s and that's why we're still just seeing the rain here. Take a look out on Route 9 and you can see a lot of ponding out there. This has basically been a rain event for us throughout the morning when it started probably about 8, 8:30 this morning. And we really haven't seen any snow coming down this year. It's kind of a sleety icy rain because it is again mid-30s, so you do have to be extra careful. My biggest concern is that these roads getting wet. You see this ponding, and then once temperatures go down, especially overnight, that could be a really, really scary drive. So just kind of keep that in. As you are making your way home this evening for your evening commute, just keep an eye on the temperature gauge. Keep an eye on the roadways because that's when you have that black ice forming and that is scary stuff. So please give yourself plenty of extra time. Just be aware of it, be extra careful. To Rockland County. This is video from West Nyack showing you the wet conditions there. Let's head to Diane Caruso with an update from that community. We're seeing the wintry weather mix here in West Nyack where for most of the morning there's been a good amount of rain with ice mixed in at times. The roads are wet and there is a slight dusting of snow on the ground that you'll see as you're out and about this morning. If you're out and about this morning. The Rockland County government says they're high. was treating the roads yesterday ahead of today's weather, but here at News 12 we're here to keep you safe and we just want to share that message that if you're out, take your time and be a little more prepared if you're driving at all. That's the latest. We'll be out on the roads keeping an eye on the skies as well in West. Diane Cruso News 12.

Well, we know that Rockland and Orange County are getting snow today. So joining us now is Clarkstown town supervisor George Homan to talk about how his community is getting ready for this first winter storm of the season. Thanks for being with us. Well, good morning, Lisa. Happy to be with you. And, uh, you know, obviously, uh, yesterday, we um, had the highway department uh prep our um uh equipment. I'm actually at the highway department now. We're, we're actually getting a delivery of about 1000. Uh, tons of salt, 1000 yards of salt rather that it's being delivered, uh, you know, just to replenish some of our supplies. All of our trucks are loaded. We brine the roads and literally the trucks, the workers start at 7, so our trucks are rolling out, loaded with salt and ready to go for when the snow starts. Talk if you can a little bit about the financial impact that these storms have on your community. So, you know, uh, whenever a storm like this happens, you know, depending on the, uh, you know, the length of it, obviously, there could be some overtime and, and certainly the cost of, of salt. Uh, you know, um, the, you know, this is about $40,000 worth of salt that we've just, uh, uh, purchased, uh, that's, you know, been dropped off and, and literally it will, it'll probably cover, uh, you know, uh, one to maybe two storms. So, um, again, it could be quite costly if you get a lot of snow. This is uh very early in the season. Um, you know, we've budgeted for it. So obviously, it's not a budget impact as of yet, uh, on our, uh, budget, but, uh, you know, obviously it's, uh, a good amount of, uh, a good amount of money that, uh, um, you know, we spend on, uh, overtime, you know, uh, with these storms. I mean, because, uh, you know, when you start, you can't stop. I mean, uh, we have breaks that are, that are contractually built in. Uh, you know, it can cost us hundreds of thousands, some, some years, millions of dollars, you know, on, uh, on just, you know, dealing with, uh, with snow with some of these storms. So hopefully this isn't a bad one and we are well prepped and just encourage folks when it does start to snow, uh, you know, try and try and stay off the roads as best as possible. But right now we're well prepared. OK, good advice there before we let you go, we do need to ask you about that water main break on West Nyack Road. Do you have any updates on the status of those repairs this morning for us? Sure. So, uh, so, um, the, um, uh, you know, that, uh, uh, Violia has, uh, addressed that. I believe that they've essentially, uh, that, that work has been completed and they're just wrapping it up. Uh, the road is enclosed, uh, so, uh, it's possible people can get by, you know, you know, thankfully, uh, we revitalized that downtown area and uh we're substantially complete. We're not actually doing the topcoat on the road until Uh, you know, the spring. So thankfully, um, you know, that, uh, that won't be a permanent impact. Um, you know, we'll have the road patched and ready to go, uh, later this morning. That is good news. You don't want to have a water main break and snow to deal with.
