Bedford Green House is the newest supportive and affordable housing building coming to Bedford Park.
Phase 2 of the project, a second building, is currently under construction. An initial building opened in 2022, providing 117 units to residents. The new building, located right next door at 2880 Jerome Ave., will have 116 units, a laundry room, community rooms, green spaces and the Molly B. Kronick Library and Learning Center, which will be a hub for learning and enrichment. Project leaders say the support the building offers transforms people's lives. "There's also a robust and very talented occupational therapists that help provide the ADL skills for the clients, which are skills for daily living, such as cooking, budgeting, learning how to go grocery shopping, certain things that we may take for granted every day that some individuals do not know how to do," said Tina Fernandez, senior director of Bedford Green House. Bedford Green House is supported by Project Renewal. The organization is dedicated to serving the city's homeless population. Project Renewal reaches 10,000 people a year citywide through various support systems like health care, housing, and job training. Project Renewal is also building the organization's first street-facing clinic that will be open to the public in 2026. "It's a wonderful asset for those individuals that maybe not mobile and can't go out and visit a psychiatrist or a clinician. All they have to do is literally come into Bedford Green House and they'll be serviced," said Fernandez. She emphasized the importance of proper health care in the Bronx, which she said builds healthy, robust communities. Bedford Green House's first building has a rooftop garden, and horticulture classes that will be accessible to tenants in both buildings. They also share an outdoor courtyard and playground. Staff say this isn't just an apartment building, it's a community where support and growth is celebrated. "You get to help someone rebuild their lives and you get to help them with housing stability and overall wellness," said Jasmine Cummings, vice president of programs at Project Renewal. Project renewal is currently reviewing applications. It plans to have a ribbon-cutting at the building in October. Click this link to learn more about the project.
