The Bronx is home to many diverse communities, and one nonprofit organization in Van Nest is making sure their traditions aren't lost.
The Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts, also known as BAFA, was founded in 2011. The organization is all about uplifting immigrant families and youth in the community, using art to keep their culture alive.
The group offers programs in dance, music, visual arts and Bangla literacy. Members say it's more than just preserving tradition, it's also about empowering future leaders.
Programs are offered at BAFA all year and are open to anyone who wants to take part.
