Broadway actor Casey Garvin is living out a full-circle moment on the Great White Way starring as Charlie in "SMASH: The Musical."
The show is inspired by the NBC television series. Garvin, who was born and raised in Ringwood, says his proximity to New York City gave him easy access to the magic of Broadway.
“I could hop on a bus, a train, a car and be in the city within an hour or so,” Garvin said. “We understand how incredible it is and the legacy.”
"SMASH" brings the audience behind the scenes of making a musical.
"Being on Broadway now as a Jersey boy means my mom and my dad get to bring all their friends into the city to see Broadway shows and see me in Broadway shows,” said Garvin.
Through Gavin now lives in Queens, he still holds his home state close.
"At the top of Skyline Drive, you can see the skyline of Manhattan. And so as a kid leaving town and going into the city, I'd be like, 'There's the city! OK, we're starting the journey,’” recalled Garvin.
Garvin’s run in ‘SMASH’ will conclude with the show’s final performance on June 22.
