And as I mentioned a moment ago, there is now a state of emergency in effect for New Jersey. And joining me now to talk about that on the phone is Lieutenant Governor Tahisha Way. Lieutenant Governor, it's good to speak to you. Good to speak to you too, Eric. First, let's talk about practically speaking what this state of emergency means for New Jerseyans, what you want them to know and what it means for first responders and crews out there. Sure, you know, we value every single life, Eric, and we want everyone to be proactive instead of reactive. So with the state of emergency, which I declared at 1 p.m. today for all 21 counties, we want to ensure that if any of the locals need any additional state aid, they can, you know, request that. That is why. I, um, our team activated the state emergency operations center who will be there for any and all requests for state resources. Our BCU has been coordinating with the utilities. They are standing strong and standing up for this, for reliability and. Operation and of course, DOT our transportation and NJ Transit. Look, this is an unfortunate time for a storm to hit us. This is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, but we want to ensure that our crews have The necessary um space, if you will, to tend to the road. So if you have to travel, please go slow, drive with caution, and please plan for ice on the road. Now, you, you did mention that the BPU has been coordinating with the power companies. What is it that they're looking for at this point? Because we're not just looking for snow, we're, we're talking about ice impacts also. Sure, you know, if there are any down polls or anything like that, but there has not been, of course, any of the requests at this time, but they are, they are stood up and they are monitoring. And going forward over the course of the next 12 or so hours, let's say people do their travel, they get home, or they just decide to stay put until after the storm. What is it that you want them to know in terms of, let's say there are power outages? Sure, you know, that they can connect, right, with their uh utility companies. We're also um going to be live tracking the latest on this storm. People can go to ready.nj.gov. They can also uh go to atGov Murphy or my handle on Twitter at LTgovway. One can also check 511NJ.org, you know, and this goes back to any of the latest travel um and traffic conditions. All right. Uh, with that storm headed straight for us, public safety officials and plenty of people are gearing up for what could be a very long night. News Twelve's Jack Ford headed up to Morris County as preparations were underway there. Almost a revolving door at the hardware store this morning. Plenty of folks coming out with more than a few bags of salt. We have a very long driveway. I need about 100 pounds of salt to get it down, and, uh, after our last snowstorm, I completely ran out. So here I am buying some more salt for today's weather event. At the pump, same story, folks trying to beat the snow by fueling up their cars early. And maybe even a canister for the road as well among the normal snow essentials. They're filling up, getting ready for the storm. I just left Shoprite. I got my generator good to go. I got firewood. I'm old school, ready to go. Morris County Emergency Management Director Jeff Paul tells us their call center is on standby. And plows and salt spreaders are ready to hit the road. Obviously, we're in, uh, storm mode as, you know, as we, as we say now, you're at the 91 Center, uh, where we'll be gearing up for this evening and the overnight for, you know, call volume and, and that kind of stuff. While an overnight storm is usually ideal with less cars on the road, Paul tells us this storm falling right after Christmas could mean more cars to look out for. So the best advice, uh, we expect that it should be, you know, pretty much done by lunchtime tomorrow, but at the same time, you know, an early departure may not be the right answer at the moment based on forecast data. So, we're just telling people to, you know, stay aware and maybe need to adjust their travel times, you know, to be safe. Jersey gearing up for yet another round of snow before December ends. And parts of central Jersey could see less snow but more sleet, as you heard Leanne say not long ago. One of those zones looks to be along I-195 right along the corridor, like in Wall Township in Monmouth County, and that's where we find News 12 New Jersey's Jim Murdoch right now. Jim, you're at the County Public Works facility. The trucks have been filling up with salt and brine. How's it looking? Good afternoon, Eric. It's cold out here. It's about 28 degrees. It's cloudy. We're waiting for those first flurries to come in here, and anything that falls out of the sky, it's going to stick on contact unless the surfaces are treated. This is that battleground we're talking about how much snow, how much sleet still to be determined, right along the 195 corridor, but they're prepping for whatever might fall out of the sky. You can see a fleet of 5 plows behind me. I want to bring in the. man himself, the leader of Monmouth County Commissioner Director Tom Arnow, we're talking about snow. We're talking about sleet. We just had a storm about a week and a half ago. It dropped about 7 to 8 inches. How are we preparing for snow and or ice here in Monmouth County? So as you know, we're always prepared here in Monmouth County. I want to thank all the staff here, all our employees in the public works that keep our roads so clear. But you know, every storm's different and every region's different. So if you have the Western part of the county we're expecting a little bit more snow than down here at the shore, but down here at the shore you could potentially be expecting more ice, which is a different type of treatment there. But uh, we're prepared. We have, you know, well over 200 men out on the, on the, on the roads there keeping our county safe. Uh, we have over 285 pieces of equipment out there, so, you know, we're mobilizing at the right time. Fortunately enough, tomorrow will be Saturday, uh, when it's. When it clears up and we'll be able to clear the roads pretty good like we always do. Yeah, what about for travelers? A lot of people have places to go tonight and tomorrow morning they want to get back home or they're going somewhere as a family to go. So you want to be careful. Obviously any type of an event on the road, whether it's rain, snow, sleet, you want to be careful, and I could just pass that on to all the people that are driving on our county roads here to continue to do that. But at the end of the day, no one thing our. County trucks are on there. Our people are on there. Our employees are on there making sure we're back down the black pavement when this whole storm is done. Great. Tom Arn, commissioner director for Monmouth County.
