The victim of a deadly Christmas Eve stabbing in Massapequa was found in an upstairs apartment, sources say.
The 57-year-old woman was discovered by police at a building on Old Sunrise Highway at around 7 p.m. Tuesday with multiple stab wounds. She died at a hospital.
The victim has been identified as Josefina Ramirez Montero, of Massapequa.
Business owners in the area expressed their disbelief.
"I'm shocked," said Tony Giordano, owner of G.T. Precision Imports, a business located close to where the murder occurred. "My wife and I operate this business here. I just didn’t think stuff like that happened around here."
Other local business owners shared similar sentiments. Joe Calandrino, who runs JDC Lawn Sprinklers nearby, described the incident as "sad."
"It’s a pretty decent area," said Calandrino. "We haven’t had much trouble over here."
Despite the growing concern, details surrounding the killing remain scarce. A police officer was seen at the scene Friday, speaking with a nearby business owner. Investigators were spotted searching storm drains on Thursday.
Authorities, however, have yet to release information about any suspects or the possible motive behind the crime.
At this time, police have not announced any arrests in connection with the murder, and it remains unclear how many people were living in the apartment at the time of the incident.
