In a demonstration of solidarity and economic influence, several Hudson Valley businesses shut down for the day in observance of "A Day Without Immigrants."
In Yonkers, La Pizzeria del Sabor, managed by Samuel Layva, chose to close its doors.
“It’s all about immigrants because they also pay taxes, and they contribute to this economy,” he said.
The initiative aimed to highlight the critical role immigrants play in local economies. Layva hoped this day will underscore the significance of immigrant-run businesses in Westchester's largest city.
Similarly, in Newburgh, numerous businesses were closed. This action extended beyond commerce, with students skipping school and workers taking the day off to illustrate their indispensable roles in the community.
