Mount Vernon police have been busy over the last several days dealing with violent acts.
The latest incident happened at about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday near the corner of Park and Prospect Avenues.
Police say they were called to the area for a report of an assault. Officers arrived to find a victim who investigators say suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but they haven't released details about exactly what happened yet. The victim was taken to the hospital, and they are still looking for the suspect.
This is the latest in a string of violent incidents that have occurred in the city over the past few days.
Monday, an 18-year-old man was shot in the leg at the basketball court on South 7th Avenue and West Fourth Street.
Over the weekend, there were two other shootings that left two people hurt, one happened on South 4th Avenue, the other on South 2nd Street.
Still, Mount Vernon city officials say violence is down as they work on new crime initiatives such as giving out security cameras to residents.
Police say all these violent incidents are under investigation and they ask anyone who may have information to reach out. People can call the MVPD at 914-665-2510 or text an anonymous tip to 847411.
