        WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
        - Very warm temperatures were around Thursday but not enough to break any records. The record in White Plains is 75 set back in 2022 and the temperature got to 71 degrees.
        - Temperatures will gradually cool down overnight, with some spots getting into the upper-30s to mid-40s.
        - Friday will trend above average, as the trend has been in days past, with breezy to windy conditions.
        - A dry wind will flow down through the day, continuing to make the air feel drier and the vegetation stays very dry.
        - The combination of those factors could lead to fires starting and/or spreading with ease. With that being the case, the National Weather Service issued a fire weather (red flag) warning across Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties.
        - Any activities that involve using an open flame must be carefully done with the flame put out ASAP.
        - Do not do anything around dry vegetation, such as fallen Fall leaves. Please dispose of cigarette safely and securely, with the embers no longer visible.
        - The winds will back down by Saturday morning and the air will feel more seasonal.
        - Remember those jackets and coats you have? You may need them for the weekend ahead.
        - Expect colder mornings with seasonal afternoons with Saturday having plenty of sunshine and Sunday seeing clouds roll in for the afternoon hours.
        - Those clouds will bring showers to the region, and it will last into Monday morning.
        - This much needed rain will help the drought outlook, even though only about 0.25" to 0.5" are expected.
        - We would need around 9 inches of rain to completely make up for the deficit across the region.
        - Next week will trend towards more appropriate levels for this time of the year, with highs in the 50s to low 60s.
        DROUGHT MONITOR
