We saw record warmth on Halloween across the area Thursday! Afternoon temperatures climbed to the upper 70s, with some areas even reaching the low 80s. Bridgeport hit a record high of 75, and Danbury reached 73, both breaking previous records. However, it is still very dry. The latest drought monitor report shows an increase in abnormally dry conditions across western Connecticut, with moderate drought areas expanding north and southwest. This marks 24 consecutive days without measurable rainfall. A cold front moving through this morning may bring some light showers, which would end the dry streak if at least 0.01 inches of rain falls. If rain does arrive, watch for slick roads; oil residue and wet leaves can make roads and sidewalks slippery. Rain normally helps wash some of this buildup away. Winds could gust up to 30-40 mph for your Friday, prompting the NWS to issue a Red Flag Warning from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. No outdoor fires are advised, as wildfires could spread quickly in these dry, windy conditions. After this rapid warm up, temperatures will drop just as quickly over the weekend. Remember to set clocks back an hour on Sunday night at 2 a.m. Temperatures will be more fall-like, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s. If you’re not a fan of the cold, don’t worry—early November should bring a bit of warmth back.
