Tenants who have been living without heat since October at their Morrisania apartment building gathered Saturday with the goal to get their homes warmed up again.
They gathered in the building's lobby at 501 East 165th St. for their first tenant meeting.
"We started keeping the oven on, sometimes when it gets really cold, but obviously we can't keep that going," said tenant Ashley Pope-Askin.
Pope-Askin is a mother of two boys. The inconsistent heat has left her telling her son to "put sweats and hats on, if it's necessary."
The concerned mother is not alone.
Neighbors began a "no heat" group chat in November, which has grown to 30 members. The goal of the group is to support one another through the unbearable conditions and demand answers from management.
"We're trying to form our own association so we can hold them accountable when these things happen," said Allison Wheeler, another tenant.
Concerns over the cold temperatures even reached pet owners like Olga Hernandez, who is worried about her 11-month-old puppy, Bella.
"I have to have her in long Johns because I can't put a small T-shirt or just a dress on her because it's not warm enough. So I have to keep her in something that's warm because she's cold, like me," she said.
Neighbors said they are already working on another meeting.
News 12 reached out to the management company, Morrisiana Terrace LLC, but had not heard back as of Saturday night.
