Some Morris County business owners will attend a meeting in Roxbury Township on Monday night to learn more about their options during a major emergency surrounding Interstate 80.
Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency over the weekend regarding the highway, which has been plagued by sinkholes. The state Department of Transportation has closed portions of the highway for repair but implemented some detours.
Murphy toured the site over the weekend. He is also requesting access to federal funding to help with the repairs.
The DOT has not yet announced the duration of the repairs and closures. However, business owners in the area say the detours have caused a drop in customers.
“Our numbers are down 20-30%, especially at night. We’ve closed early a couple of nights at 11 p.m. because there’s nobody here. We’re usually open until 2 a.m.,” says Jim Hill, of Knotty Pine Pub.
News 12 will be at Monday night’s meeting to find out what was discussed.
