Authorities say at least eight cars were involved in a serious crash that temporarily shut down Route 70 eastbound in Lakewood on Friday morning.
They say the incident occurred around 5:51 a.m. when a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the highway collided with multiple cars, igniting a fire.
Officials say that emergency responders used extrication tools to free a person trapped inside a vehicle and worked to extinguish the flames.
One patient suffered burns and was airlifted to a hospital. Several others sustained varying injuries but declined medical attention at the scene, according to officials.
One person was initially reported in critical condition following the collision.
