A Milford man who was charged with using an ax to kill the mother of his son has agreed to a plea deal that will see him serve 40 years in prison.

Ewen Dewitt pleaded guilty Wednesday to murder and risk of injury of a child in the death of Julie Minogue.

Dewitt previously had rejected an offer from the prosecutor to serve 45 years and opted go to trial.

A trial date was supposed to be set this month, over two years since the mother of three was killed in her condo.

News 12 was the only station at today's hearing and will have reaction from Minogue's father beginning at 4:30 p.m.
