Drivers experienced gridlock Friday as I-95 in Norwalk remained closed and part of the Merritt Parkway was shut down due to an accident.
The parkway was closed between Exits 47 and 46 southbound on the Trumbull-Fairfield line.
The left lane opened as of 5 p.m. but the right lane remains closed.
The Fairfield Fire Department says the multi-vehicle crash took place just after 12 p.m. and two people were hospitalized.
It's not clear what caused the accident.
Traffic has been diverted off the roadway.
With portions of the area's two major highway shut down, traffic was backed up for miles on and off the thoroughfares.
Drivers say as a result, their commutes have been nightmares.
State Police say Route 15 was reopened late Friday afternoon.
